Linda Yaccarino, newly appointed CEO of Twitter, expressed her enthusiasm in a tweet on Saturday. She is inspired by owner Elon Musk’s vision of a brighter future and looking forward to helping transform the social media platform.
Yaccarino’s appointment was officially revealed on Friday, following news of her talks with Twitter the day before. She shared her excitement on Twitter: “I’ve been motivated by [Musk’s] ambition to create a better tomorrow. I’m looking forward to implementing this vision on Twitter and making something great together!”
Yaccarino, who, as the head of advertising for Comcast Corp’s NBCUniversal, modernized its ad system, is devoted to the future of Twitter and values user feedback in the development of Twitter 2.0.
Twitter is struggling to regain its ad revenue and is weighed down with debt. Since Musk’s $44 billion acquisition last October, advertisers have left the platform due to anxiety of their ads being placed by inappropriate content, and Musk admitted the platform has seen a significant drop in its ad revenue.
Musk has spoken previously of creating an ‘everything app’, which could provide services such as peer-to-peer payments, but his selection of an advertising specialist suggests that digital ads will still be a major focus.
Musk’s choice of Yaccarino as the new CEO will free up more of his time to dedicate to Tesla Inc, where he is also the CEO. He has long said he wanted to find a new leader for Twitter.
